Butler, sit down to discuss Dark Horse Comics latest installment to the #SWEU- Star Wars: In The Shadow of Yavin. (Star Wars Vol 2 Ongoing Series) Strap in and tighten your crash webbing Fandom, Star Wars Beyond the Films is setting off on another rapid-fire trip into the galaxy far, far away!

A new look at an old era is here! What does this spell for Continuity as we know it?

First off; no your equalizer is right, Mark has a head cold.

Staying spoiler free at the start (14 minutes) the guys discuss the hype around this new ongoing Star Wars series. Nathan also discusses the flood of 1st issue variants and the insanity of it all.

Mark points out that it isn’t the only ongoing ‘Star Wars’ run…. Dark Times, i.e. Republic, i.e. Star Wars….

Nathan discusses touchstones that help place this story, Luke’s comment about the funerals this month, Super Star Destroyer being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and so forth. Mark points out a couple character moments where some characters just don’t feel right.

Look up in the sky! A continuity error! Or retcon in the making?

Both hosts agree that the art is just stellar. Leia as a starfighter pilot! (Nothing new here)

Leia is the hero you are looking for in this series. At least from the start. We also get new villains like Col. Bircher. While some characters get opportunity to grow, not everyone introduced to this series gets that treatment.

And what is up with the whole relationship with Prithi and Luke? What exactly happened on that long flight back to the Rebellion? And what is going on with her Force abilities? We see Luke as a “playah” apparently. Or are we to believe there is a new shipping war about to start? Luke/ Prithi vs Luke/ Leia….

Han is stuck on Coruscant, in a scene with which Wood shows us EXACTLY how Han can find time to use the Refresher with all the Big 3 tales set so on top of each other. (See what I did there Beyonders?)

They point out that Col. Bircher is the James T. Kirk of the series leading his Destroyer into battle from a Tie…. And even Luke is channeling Kirk with his replies to Prithi.
The art is the selling point for this series. Both hosts agree that the art style should be utilized more often in other eras as well.

Free digital copies in the 1st three issues. Mark discusses why this was an error on Dark Horse’s part. He felt they should have had all six issues sent with a free digital copy.

3PO and R2’s getting into the databanks was a great moment that both hosts immediately dialed into. A great character point for C3PO, which works into R2’s snoopy side. We also see what the maneuvering thrusters look like!

Very much like the Vipers in Battlestar Galactica. And if it is so easy to take out Interdiction ships and wings of Ties with a couple components from an X-Wing and a torpedo, why didn’t the Rebellion fashion more of those?!

How does the great set up end? Well the hosts have plenty to say about that. But you will have to listen to get a better idea.

So, once again, your dynamic duo cover entirely too much Ongoing Action in their ONE hour, but don’t worry, give it a go; you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might even get a little education on the EU while you’re at it. But no matter how you slice it and dice it, you’ll be having another adventure Beyond the Films. So sit back, hang on, enjoy the show, and may the Force be with you!
