A December Release for Episode VII is a Good Thing

I realize that many Star Wars fans were not exactly thrilled that the release date for Episode VII was pushed back to Dec. 2015, but I, for one, actually find quite a few reasons to be pleased with the new release date.

1. The family oriented nature of the release date. I really like the idea of families making a holiday tradition out of seeing a new Star Wars movie on the big screen. The very idea of mere weeks before Christmas, getting together with family, and traveling to the movie theater to escape to that galaxy far far away is very appealing to me.

2. There’s no longer is this “Avengers cloud.” I’ll be honest. I always thought that Avengers 2 and Star Wars had to be released in separate time periods, but now that Disney has made the announcement, I do find some kind of relief, now that there is no kind of overlap. This will make for full Financial competition with other franchises outside of the Disney umbrella and prevent from Disney competing against their own dollars, even slightly.

3. A final thing that I think is really good about the December release date is simply giving the creative team more time. Ever since they first announced the 2015 release date when Disney first purchased Lucasfilm, I felt that it was a very short amount of time to produce a top-quality Star Wars film. I think that Star Wars fans everywhere can be reassured that the creative team behind Episode VII has more time to get it right.

The more I think about it, the happier I am about a December 2015 release date.
