WARNING: Potential spoilers for Solo: A Star Wars Story
Corellia: Solo’s home planet. Solo will reportedly begin with Han at age 18 and end at 24.
A Star Destroyer being assembled above the Corellian city. Notice the bridge tower being lifted up on the right of the above picture.
Han walking through a rundown part of the city. Similar to Luke, Han has dreams of leaving his home, becoming a pilot, and exploring the Galaxy.
“You’re after something.” The voice of Qi’ra, a fellow Corellian who grew up on the streets with Han.
“Is it revenge?” – Qi’ra
Han facing down a gang known as the Cloud-Riders on a beach location.
Enfys Nest, recently revealed to be the leader of the Cloud-Riders, a swoop-bike gang.
The Cloud-Riders were first introduced in the Expanded Universe in November, 1977 in the eighth issue of the original Marvel Comics Star Wars run, beginning a Han and Chewie arc that took inspiration from the classic Samurai film Seven Samurai, by director Akira Kurosawa, several of who’s films were inspirations for the original Star Wars. In the comic story the gang is led by the colorful Serji-X Arrogantus. I personally hope there will be a reference to Serji-X, at least in the new Canon EU material.
“…money?”
Han is all-in.
What looks to be the infamous game of Sabacc where Han won the Millennium Falcon from Lando.
According to Canon sources, Han won the Falcon with a pair of golden dice, a variant on the traditional card version of Sabacc known as Corellian Spike. Han kept those dice as seen in A New Hope and The Last Jedi. You can also see the dice in some shots of young Han’s speeder on Corellia, so they seem to be lucky for him even before the game.
“… or is it something else?”
Han and Chewie seeing the Falcon for the first time? Possibly on Kessel.
“You look good…” – Qi’ra
“… little rough around the edges, but good.”
Han meeting Qi’ra again, perhaps for the first time in years. It seems she has moved up in the world of crime since they last met.
Han, Qi’ra, and Chewie (apparently carrying the luggage) on the beach location where Han has a showdown with Enfys Nest and the Cloud-Riders.
“Heard about a job…” – Tobias Beckett
Tobias is a mentor to Han who offers him what looks to be a heist job. Tobias was inspired by Long John Silver from Treasure Island, hinting that he may not be as trustworthy as Han may think.
“Big shot gangster putting together a crew.”
Crime boss Drydan Vos. Not much is known about Vos, but he seems to be the one hiring Beckett for a job. Could those be scars from Wookiee claws?
“I’m a driver. I’m a flyer.” – Han Solo
I believe this is Han on the swamp planet Mimban. Han appears to be working for the Empire at this point on a horrible, muddy swamp planet, but he clearly expected more when he signed up. I imagine he hasn’t been given the chance to use his piloting skills and is trying to convince an officer of his true worth. It is possible that this is even Beckett, who may have been an officer in the Empire.
Mimban was originally a bog planet concept for the original Star Wars. It was then used in Alan Dean Foster’s Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, the first EU novel that evolved from the low budget sequel idea to Star Wars had it not been as successful as it was. The original concept of Mimban then evolved into Dagobah. Mimban was originally made canon with a mention in an episode of The Clone Wars.
Han racing through the streets of the Corellian city. Han is apparently racing against a local gang leader named Moloch, who was recently revealed in a trading card.
The train heist. Han battles to secure the cargo against the Cloud-Riders who can be seen on their swoop bikes. Does Han have to destroy the cargo in order to escape? Maybe he learns that what they are stealing is too dangerous for anyone to possess.
“I’ve waited a long time for a shot like this.” – Han
Han and Beckett’s crew around a campfire. Han is eager to prove his skills.
Val. A member of Beckett’s crew. Little is known about her character.
Becket tossing Han his iconic DL-44 blaster. Was this a gift from Beckett?
“What do you think?… Well, what do you know?” – Han to Chewie
Seems like Chewie has a bad feeling about this.
Han, Qi’ra, and Chewie outside the bar where they meet Lando. The skull may be the kind represented on Boba Fett’s shoulder symbol.
The exterior and interior of this location remind me of Marion’s bar in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
“You got a line on a ship?” – Beckett
“Yeah, I know a guy. He’s the best smuggler around.” – Qi’ra
Lando is introduced to the gang through Qi’ra.
“I heard a story about you. I was wondering if it’s true.” – Han
“Everything… you heard about me… is true.” – Lando
Han and Lando meet for the first time. I’m guessing Han has heard something Lando might not like.
Chewie laughing. I like to think it’s at a slight Han has made against a cocky Lando, or vice versa.
Based on some info I’ve seen out there, I believe there is droid cage fighting going on here.
“L3! Let go of the mean man’s face.”
L3-37 is Lando’s droid co-pilot. L3 upgrades herself by replacing her parts with those of other droids. This is one droid that won’t wait outside. Would love to see her interact with K-2SO…
A look at the Falcon before Han’s “special modifications.” I believe this is located on Kessel, possibly where Chewie is enslaved in the spice mines.
“If you come with us, you’re in this life for good.” – Beckett
Han is given one more chance to pursue an honest living.
“Might wanna buckle up, baby.” – Lando
I sense a Space Balls “ludicrous speed” reference…
“Han’s first experience with the Falcon’s hyperspace capabilities?
The fact that Lando is still piloting makes me think that the earlier sabacc game might not have been the one played for the Falcon, but that bet may come later in the film, maybe even at the end.
Looks like the train heist will involve Imperial entanglements. We know the Cloud-Riders will be involved also, so this should be an exiting battle between at least three groups.
Shots of the Falcon flying over what could be Kessel.
“Let me give you some advice. Assume everyone will betray you…” – Beckett
Qi’ra wearing the same style cape as Senator Vasp Vaspar seen in Rogue One.
Perhaps she is in disguise as a representative of the Taldot sector. This could be their way into Kessel.
An AT-ST variant on Mimban.
“…and you will never be disappointed.”
Han may get some of his classic cynicism from Beckett. Will someone betray Han? I’m betting on Qi’ra or even Beckett himself.
My favorite moment of the trailer. A look at Chewie’s wife Malla!?
Malla was first introduced in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special in 1978.
Malla was made canon in 2015 in the young readers novel A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy. Their son Lumpawaroo, aka Waroo (aka Lumpy in the Holiday Special) was also made canon in the novel Aftermath: Empire’s End (It could be Lumpy in the trailer, as some think, but I lean towards in being Malla). Now only Attichitcuk (aka Itchy) is left from the family to be made canon. Perhaps we will see the old grouch in Solo also.
The Falcon encountering some kind of giant space creature, perhaps during the Kessel Run.
We have seen similar space creatures that can travel through hyperspace, such as the Purrgil in Rebels and a jellyfish-like space monster in Marvel’s Han Solo comic.
“I gotta really good feeling about this.” – Han
A fun twist on “I got a bad feeling about this.”
“Since when do you know how to fly?” – Han
“You’re a hundred an ninety years old? You look great!”
A Star Destroyer and TIE Fighters chase the Falcon through a turbulent cloud tunnel where the space creature seems to strike from.
“Push it!” – Han
Han and Chewie making their first jump together into hyperspace.
Dilapidated structures on the beach where Han faces Enfys Nest and the Cloud-Riders.
An angry Dryden Vos uses an energy bladed weapon to cut open some kind of sculpture, maybe even part of his own collection. Perhaps a certain smuggler and his Wookieee pal have angered him.
A fight on what I believe to be Mimban. Han showing off his fighting skills for the Empire?
Chewie getting revenge on his captors in the Kessel spice mines?
“So glad we took this job!” – L3-37
This may be a slave revolt on Kessel. I have a feeling the Kessel Run may be done while transporting freed slaves rather than smuggling spice.
We end on Han saving Chewie during the train heist in another shot reminiscent of Indiana Jones (The Last Crusade).
That’s all for now. May the Force of Others be with you.
