Princess Leia is one of the most popular and famous character from Star Wars. Portrayed by the legendary late Carrie Fisher, the character of Princess Leia was introduced in the original Stars Wars movie in 1977. A princess of the planet Alderaan, a member of the Imperial Senate and an agent of the Rebel Alliance, Princess Leia is a cult figure among Star Wars fans, many of whom still to this day dress up as her during costume parties and Comic-Cons. A woman of strength and conviction, Princess Leia was very humane, loyal, refused to quit, was tough and had a strong sense of justice.
Corn mazes
One Star Wars fan has taken his fascination and obsession with Princess Leia to a wholly different level. Goebel Farms in Evansville planted a corn field tribute to actress Carrie Fisher, with the maze reading ‘Carrie Fisher RIP 1956-2016’. The maze shows Fisher in her iconic and well-known Princess Leia character, with buns and all. Although the maze has only just opened to customers, it has been in making for months in the Midwestern state of Indiana. Goebel planted the corn early in 2017 and mapped out a picture of the design with corresponding GPS points for the field. The image was then uploaded into a tractor computer which told him which areas to plant and which to leave blank.
This is not the first time that a corn maze has been used to pay tributes to legendary Star Wars characters. A 2015 maze featured Kylo Ren from The Force Awakens, while the 2005 design portrayed Anakin Skywalker before he became Darth Vader. These corn mazes are not the only strange places that Star Wars has appeared in. A quick search on the internet will reveal the plethora of places where fans have come across Star Wars characters and themes, including Mexican football club Pachuca unveiling USA central defender Omar Gonzalez in a Darth Vader costume during his official unveiling as a new signing for the team back in December 2015 following his move from Major League Soccer side, the Los Angeles Galaxy.
International Space Station mission patch
Each and every mission on the International Space Station is commemorated with a patch to celebrate their accomplishments. For 2017, the mission patch will use key icons from Star Wars franchise to do so. It is quite fitting, as fans would argue that Star Wars has played a role in developing an understanding of people from outer space. Developed through a collaboration of Lucasfilm and CASIS, the patch design features Millennium Falcon craft, the Death Star, the BB-8, and K-2SO among others. The goal of this mission patch is to celebrate Star Wars and science; it is certainly going to make the fans of the Star Wars franchise very, very, happy.
Stamps
The Stars War fever is sweeping Great Britain as well. Ahead of the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in December of this year, Great Britain will issue eight stamps on October 12. Royal Mail issued similar stamps before as tribute to Star Wars, with British artist Malcolm Tween designing the latest one as well. The stamps will feature droids (robots) and aliens from the various Star Wars films. Royal Mail has also stated that each stamp will show a scene especially created by Tween “that includes the hero characters as well as an iconic spaceship or vehicle”. What is intriguing about these stamps is that their designs will include features that will only be visible under ultraviolet light.
Online slots
The growth and popularity of Star Wars over the past several decades saw many characters and themes get their own online slot games. As expected, they proved to be quite popular among the punters, but unfortunately for the fans they have been discontinued. Fortunately for the Star Wars fans, there are a number of other slot games available which are based on space and sci-fi adventures and themes. Among the online casinos that host such games and offer bonuses, as outlined on Oddschecker, is Sky Casino, which offers Green Lantern, a group of superheroes who fight evil with the help of rings that give them extraordinary powers. Another popular space adventure-based online slot game is Space Invaders on bet365 The 5-reel, 10-payline slot game is based on the original arcade video game which was created in the late 1970s in which you need to defend planet Earth from extra-terrestrial forces.
Lego sets
Star Wars are also among the most popular and wanted Lego sets, underlining that they are very much in the mainstream. While kids who play with these Lego sets may not fully understand what Star Wars is all about, parents buying such sets for their children are paying a certain respect to the franchise.
Star Wars is one of the biggest, most popular and most lucrative movie franchises in the world, and given how strong it has been going for decades, it is only logical to expect it to stay as relevant as it has been for the last 40 years. The success of recent movies, such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has underlined the sustaining popularity of the franchise, which is here to stay.
