NAO Warning: Beware of possible Nathan Analysis Overload. Nathan gives the lowdown on what the recent “canon” announcement means for Rebels, with Mark at his side with further insights and “ponders” along the way.
On April 25, 2014, a pair of news releases from Lucasfilm and Del Rey shook the concept of Star Wars “canon” to its core, revealing what many had suspected for a while: that the “Official Continuity” within the Expanded Universe would be relegated to the position of what amounts to an alternate timeline (and source of inspiration to be tapped) to make way for a new timeline based around the live action films (old and new), The Clone Wars, and Rebels. What surprised many, though, was that new novels, comics, and other spinoff materials going forward would no longer be considered lower in status than the films or cartoons but right alongside them as “true” Star Wars.
In this episode, Nathan and Mark team up in Star Wars Beyond the Films fashion to break down what this means for Rebels and The Clone Wars that preceded it. Is this “new dawn” a good thing for the new cartoon series? Nathan takes on the role of teacher and analyst, while Mark provides his own take on matters, including some “ponders” that might make us wonder just what the next few years have in store for the saga.
